State Park - Barr Lake
Back to Main
Area
Map |
Nature enthusiasts can enjoy a unique combination
of activities from wildlife watching and educational programs to
hunting and fishing at Barr Lake State Park. A boater and wildlife-watcher's
paradise, Barr Lake is known as an exceptional wildlife habitat.
Bird watchers can spot over 300 species of birds at the park, which
is home to the Colorado Bird Observatory and an important Colorado
wildlife refuge.
The southwest side of the lake, and the marshes along its edge,
provide habitat for numerous species of bird, including great blue
herons, bald eagles and pelicans. A family of eagles even nests
in the park each spring! Visitors can watch the birds from the comfort
of a lakeside gazebo, by boat on the northeast end of the lake,
or on the Eagle Express, Barr Lake's motorized shuttle trail ride.
In addition to the 330 species of birds that have been identified
in the park, Barr Lake is also home to red foxes and deer. Barr
Lake State Park is ideal for non-motorized activities and motorboats
with 10 horsepower or less. This allows the park to offer a peaceful,
relaxing haven for visitors to enjoy sailing and canoeing in calm
waters. Barr Lake is a day-use park only and does not offer camping.
Our peaceful lake perimeter trail is great for birding, wildlife
watching, jogging, horseback riding, or biking (thorn proof tires
are a must!). Enjoy fishing and boating on the north side of Barr
lake or join a Park Naturalist for a guided program. Barr Lake Park
is open from 5am - 10pm daily.

Directions - Take I-76 northeast from Denver, exit on Bromley Lane.
Go east to Picadilly Road, then south to the park entrance.
